FRASERS HILL

Perhaps one of the most uncelebrated highland resorts in Malaysia, Frasers Hill is indeed quite a popular tourists destination located in the Pahang state in Malaysia. The highlands got its name from Louis James Fraser who came here in the 1890s where he found tin. The Scotsman had prior to coming here went to dig for gold in Australia and when he got here, he found that tin was lucrative business. So he then employed Chinese miners to help him with the mining work while he operated mule trains down the mountains where he earned his living.
He then mysteriously disappeared but rumour has it that it had something to do with his gambling and opium business. Eventually, in around 1913, tin ran out here but by then it was already known for being a colonial hill resort where the rich and could afford came here to enjoy the cool temperature at 1524 meters above sea level. A road was then built in 1922 and that saw further developments in Frasers hill including the first golf courses in the country as well as residential housing like bungalows and houses.
One of the distinctive sight and fact about Frasers Hill is that despite the rapid developments in other highland resorts like Cameron Highlands and Genting Highlands, Frasers Hill is still very much looked the same with its old and traditional cottage like homes as well as the natural attractions here.
This is probably due to the fact that there is no public transport that comes here where the last remaining bus service from Kuala Kubu Bahru has since been terminated. So to get to Frasers Hill, you will have to come here by your own transport. To get here, you will need to come through from Kuala Lumpur which is 105 kms away and will take away 2 hours and get in through Kuala Kubu Bahru. If you like you can get the train service that also stops here with the KTM Komuter Service.Frasers Hill is very much a natural location and it is also known as one of the best places in the world for birdwatching. There have been a total of more than 250 different bird species recorded here and they hold the annual Bird Race here. The Jeriau Waterfalls too is another place which you can visit located about 5km away from the town center.
